Donated Hitachi excavators arrive in Ukraine for humanitarian aid and infrastructure restoration
Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) NV (HCME) and its dealer in The Netherlands have supported Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. in the donation of two used excavators to Ukrainian dealer Mobile Heavy Machinery (MHM).
Reliable excavators to aid charities
A ZX470LCH-5 large excavator and ZX210W wheeled excavator were delivered to the dealer in January 2024 – ready to be donated to their respective charities: the Kharkivvodokanal enterprise and Nadia charity foundation.
The machines were specifically modified to make them more suited to the needs of the Ukrainian market and given servicing and maintenance to ensure their reliable performance. They were also repainted, supplied with suitable buckets, and delivered job-site ready.
Transporting the construction machinery
HCME President Ikeda shared insights into the challenges encountered during the shipment process, highlighting the intricate logistics involved, particularly given the size of the ZX470 and the constraints at border crossings. “Thanks to the dedication and hard work of all colleagues involved in the project, we were able to overcome the transport issues and ensure that both machines arrived safely.”
Supporting a worthy mission
The arrival of the used excavators marks a significant contribution to ongoing efforts aimed at alleviating the impact of the conflict in Ukraine. The Kharkivvodokanal enterprise aims to allocate humanitarian aid, including food, medicine, and accommodation, to as many people as possible in Kharkiv, which is close to the northeast border with Russia.
Mayor Igor Terekhov took part in the excavator handover ceremony on 29 January. He said: “This excavator is another reliable assistant in the restoration of the city. It will save time and money when reconstructing houses that have been damaged by shelling.”
The ZX210W was delivered to the south of Ukraine. It was donated to the Nadia charity foundation, which provides support to frontline, de-occupied regions and cities that are experiencing missile strikes. It has been helping communities, medical institutions and people affected by the fighting since the beginning of the war.
During this time, the charity has assisted more than 300 medical institutions and sent humanitarian aid to more than 100 cities in 20 regions of Ukraine.
