Global success for Hitachi Construction Machinery UK service engineer
Field service engineer Jack Harrison, from Hitachi Construction Machinery UK, has won a global technical skills competition organised by HCM in Japan. The competition was made up of three stages, with the first round in the UK, the second at the HCME headquarters in Amsterdam, and the final held in Tsuchiura.
Outstanding technical knowledge
Having won the UK round, Jack competed against five other participants from ESMTP (France), Probst Maveg (Switzerland), Delvator (Sweden), and Rotator (Finland and Estonia) at the HCME contest in the summer. All participants showed their outstanding technical knowledge during the theory examination and exceptional troubleshooting skills during the practical test by swiftly resolving issues on a ZX250-7 medium excavator. Furthermore, they effectively communicated their repair work during the reporting test.
As the winner of the European stage, Jack was entered into the global competition in Japan, which took place in October. In addition to showcasing his skills on an international stage, he also had the opportunity to get a taste of the fascinating culture of Japan during his visit.
Best in class
After scoring the highest marks in the final, Jack’s achievement was a source of pride for his colleagues. He was later awarded the inaugural HCMUK Kenkijin spirit award at a staff event for being most valuable player. CEO of HCMUK, Dave Roberts, said, “I feel an immense sense of pride on behalf of HCMUK. I would also like to thank the wider service team who support Jack and all the field service engineers every day.
“And a special mention to Steve Dobson, Derek Humphries, and Paul Blanchard, who support the engineers in the field with technical advice and training that is a key ingredient in making all of our field service engineers the best in class, which is a key driver for our customers to choose HCMUK time and again.”
The sense of achievement was also shared by all at HCME. President Ikeda Takaharu also praised Jack’s remarkable efforts and those of the other finalists. “Your dedication and hard work in preparation for the competition have truly paid off. Your achievement will undoubtedly inspire and motivate other service staff members to continually enhance their skills and knowledge, providing customers with exceptional service. We are proud of you all.”
