Hitachi Construction Machinery Zaxis-7 excavators excel on overnight bridge demolition
A Hitachi Construction Machinery (HCM) ZX490LCH-7 large excavator was chosen by demolition and earthworks company Upek GmbH for a challenging contract – to bring down a bridge over Germany’s A1 in less than 38 hours.
The bridge had to be completely dismantled by the contractor in this short timeframe – a task for only the most efficient machine! The project also involved constructing a sand bed on the underlying road. The work had to be carried out overnight to avoid delays to traffic on the busy motorway.
The perfect partnership
The Zaxis-7 machine was provided by German HCM dealer Kiesel from its rental fleet. Pre-empting the demands of this unique job site, the ZX490LCH-7 came specially equipped with demolition shears and a hydraulic hammer. Kiesel has provided other construction machinery for Upek’s fleet, including the ZX300LCN-7 that was also used on this project.
Thanks to the reliability of the Hitachi excavators on site and the great service from Kiesel, the job was completed on time with minimal disruption. Upek General Manager Peter Steltner was highly satisfied with the performance of the two Hitachi models: “The ZX490LCH-7 and a ZX300LCN-7 have done a very, very good job.”
