Quarries welcome new Hitachi Zaxis-7 large excavators
November 23, 2021
Two Hitachi ZX530LCH-7 large excavators have been delivered by Switzerland’s authorised Hitachi dealer, Probst Maveg. The new Zaxis-7 models are exceptionally robust, with high traction and steering power, which is particularly advantageous in quarries and gravel pits. They deliver high levels of productivity, thanks to an improved front speed and increased engine output, with 11% reduced fuel consumption compared to previous models.
The first ZX530LCH-7 was delivered to Ch. Gerster AG in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, which has specialised in concrete and recycling products since the 1930s. The company produces gravel and natural sand in various grades in its production plant.
Managing Director Wolfgang Gerster decided to invest in the new Hitachi large excavator after receiving good references, among other factors. His ZX530LCH-7 is equipped with an adjustable 3-3.5m undercarriage for easier transport, as well as breaker and clamshell piping. Probst Maveg’s partner company, Rhein-Technik AG from Sevelen/SG, is responsible for providing on-site maintenance and service.
The second ZX530LCH-7 has been purchased by family business Giannini Graniti SA in Lodrino. Dedicated to quarrying and processing granite for over 60 years, the company specialises in extracting gneiss, a valuable rock that comes from older layers in the earth’s crust. Every year, Giannini Graniti quarries up to 50,000 m³ of this exceptionally resistant material, which is often used in construction for building and cladding of buildings, staircases, fences and pavements, as well as for landscaping solutions.
The company traditionally uses Hitachi excavators for this challenging work. The new ZX530LCH-7 is equipped with a special bucket designed for marble extraction, which is fitted with Esco teeth. The Probst Maveg branch in Osogna is servicing the new machine under a five-year, full-service contract.
“Our Zaxis-7 large excavators are ideal for working in demanding environments such as quarries due to their ultra-reliable performance and durable components such as the robust undercarriage,” says Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) NV’s Excavator Product Manager, Wilbert Blom. “Their high levels of productivity and reduced fuel consumption will enable customers such as Ch. Gerster AG and Giannini Graniti SA to improve their profits.”
