JP ROY is a construction company located in Beauharnois, Québec, Canada. Founded single-handedly in 1960 by Jean-Paul Roy, the company has been passed down from generation to generation, and has grown into a major company loved by the local community. Éric Valois is a heavy equipment operator who works for JP ROY. He smiled and told his family, who manage JP ROY, that he couldn't wait to go to work every day.
For Éric Valois, this job is his true calling. “I've loved machines ever since I was a kid. I spent most of my free time tinkering with machines. ”Éric’s interest in the construction industry, which handles a wide variety of heavy equipment, was therefore a natural progression. Having begun working for Jean-Paul Roy's company in his teens, he soon decided that he wanted to commit himself even more deeply to his job, leading him to study civil engineering in Montreal. Ever since, Éric has contributed significantly to the growth of the company, helping to grow its staff from 10 to 150. It was also around this time that he met Marie-Josée, Jean-Paul’s Daughter. They eventually married and had two sons.
In her own words: “Éric and my father are quite alike. They are both so full of passion and curiosity. They love working in a team, and always seem to really enjoy working.” Marie-Josée took over the management of the company with her brother Daniel, which they now run with their nephews Francis and Nicolas and niece Marie-Ève. Éric likens JP ROY, a family-run business, to a hockey team. “Each of us has our own position and we do the best job we can. We know our roles inside and out, and we help each other out.” Playing a supporting role in their teamwork are the machines of Hitachi Construction Machinery. JP ROY currently has 20~25 Hitachi Construction Machinery’s machines and plans to increase the number of machines in the future. We asked Éric the reason. “Hitachi Construction Machinery’s machines are powerful, easy to operate, and of high quality. They allow us to perform our work trouble-free even in harsh environments, like in winter when the temperature falls below zero, or in the summer when it soars to 40℃. It's important that we don't fall behind schedule. These machines have been a lifesaver.” Marie-Ève and Francis also give their thoughts on why they have full confidence in the Hitachi Construction Machinery's machines brand. Marie-Ève: “Our relationship with Hitachi Construction Machinery goes back a long way. They have always provided us with excellent customer service, so we can use them with confidence.” Frances: “They have a great support system in place, and if we have any problems, they respond immediately. That's why we continue to choose Hitachi Construction Machinery.”
“Our sons are going to study business administration and civil engineering. I can't wait for the day they join our team," says Marie-Josée, to which Nicolas nods in agreement. “I look forward to working with us to make the company even better." “I'm sure grandpa would be proud," smiles Eve. Turning a profit is of course important, but it is not the most important thing. The most important thing is that family and friends can work together happily.
The fact that Éric still can't wait to go to work every morning is surely because everyone at JP ROY has not lost sight of what is most important in life. A warm family story that spans generations. Éric concludes by saying that Hitachi Construction Machinery's machines are also an integral part of this story.
“I have grown up with Hitachi Construction Machinery's machines for 35 years. I hope to be with them until the day I retire.”
