Hitachi Construction Machinery Obtains License of Camera Image Processing Technology of the “Around View Monitor “with Moving Object Detection from Nissan and Clarion

Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. (Hitachi Construction Machinery) has obtained the license ofthe camera image processing technology of the Around View Monitor (AVM) with Moving Object Detection (MOD), which was jointly developed by Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (Nissan) and Clarion Co., Ltd.(Clarion), from the two companies.
The AVMoffers the driver an overhead view of the vehicle’s surroundings in real time by composing images from the four exterior cameras attached on the left, right, front and rear of the vehicle. This highly sophisticated monitor, which is installed in the instrument panel, displays the position of the vehicle and the parking lines to assist in parking. The AVM was developed jointly by Nissan and Clarion and is already installed in Nissan automobiles. Hitachi Construction Machinery developed an overhead-view monitor (showing an elevated view with the construction machinery at the center) jointly with Clarion, based on the AVM technology. Dump trucks and other construction machinery for use at mines are equipped with this monitor.
The MOD, which analyzes images of moving objects from the four AVM cameras, further enhances the functions of the AVM and supports carrying out safety checks by letting the driver to quickly realize the changes in the surroundings of the vehicle. With the MOD, safety and the operator’s scope of vision of dump trucks and other construction machinery will be significantly raised.
