Visit to St Luke’s Eldercare (Hitachi Construction Machinery Asia and Pacific)
On May 19, Hitachi Construction Machinery (China) Co., Ltd conducted an environmental protection classroom at Hefei Yonghong Lu Elementary School in Hefei City, Anhui Province for 94 third graders. Employees volunteeredSince 2013, Hitachi Construction Machinery Asia & Pacific Pte Ltd (HMAP) has been supporting St Luke’s ElderCare (SLEC) at Jurong East. SLEC is an established eldercare organisation that offers quality day care services for the elderly in the community. Their services included social day care, active rehab and wellness programme. They aim to enhance the social, psychological and physical well‒being of the elderly. to teach the children about environmental protection through skits and quizzes.
This year, HMAP decided to visit SLEC again as we had an enjoyable fellowship with the elderly previously. We also understand from SLEC that there is an increase of elderly in their centre hence it would be helpful if they can receive additional support from the community.
On 5 June 2014, a total of 10 volunteers from HMAP Corporate Social Responsibility Committee (CSR) visited St Luke’s ElderCare (SLEC) at Jurong East. SLEC staffs and HMAP CSR members conducted two interactive game sessions ‒ “Hand Ball” & “Bingo”. It was heart‒warming to see that SLEC staffs and HMAP CSR members had showered warmth and kindness to the elderly who tend to respond slowly during the games. The elderly reciprocated with big smiles, cheers, and big “thank you”. There were plenty of laughter and smiles all around. In addition, HMAP contributed a total amount of estimated US$2,522.10 on the provision of the prizes (e.g. Brands Essence, Bird Nest), Delifrance Tea‒break and supply of essential food items (e.g. Biscuits, Oats, Milo, Coffee).
At the end of the event, HMAP CSR members were warmly thanked by the elderly and SLEC staffs. It was rewarding to see huge smiles on the elderly faces. This visit provided an excellent opportunity to interact with the elderly and bring joy to them. We hope to visit and support SLEC again.
