Implementing an ecosystem assessment

The Hitachi Construction Machinery Group is carrying out ecosystem assessments to deepen its recognition and understanding of the relationship between the business activities conducted by the group and the ecosystems.

The Group is assessing the product life cycle, including design, procurement, manufacturing, and use, based on a list of items to be considered in each stage of the life cycle. The assessment, from a broad range of perspectives, confirms nature’s blessings which we enjoy through our business activities and what considerations are being taken toward preserving nature. In 2014, the assessment, which began in 2011, is being conducted at all domestic manufacturing companies and major overseas manufacturing companies in countries such as China, Indonesia, and India.

The Group plans to continue to utilize this assessment to raise the understanding of ecosystems among employees and to promote preservation activities.
