Environment Month
The Hitachi Construction Machinery Group further promoted its daily environmental conservation activities, as described below, in conjunction with the United Nation’s “World Environment Day” and “Environment Month” established by Ministry of the Environment, Japan.

Specialists were called in to participate in the evaluation of practices being implemented at HCM production sites. Improvements were made to the level of activities in key areas, including energy conservation to prevent climate change, waste material sorting to promote the recovery of resources, and the promotion of recycling.
Hitachi Construction Machinery (China) Co., Ltd.
A factory open house was held, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the of the factory’s establishment. Around 200 people, employees and families from Hitachi Construction Machinery (China) and Hitachi Construction Machinery (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. participated. With the cooperation of suppliers, 57 volunteers conducted an environmental class for employee families. Using games and quizzes, children were taught about the importance of sorting waste and recycling. This event was covered by many media sources in China.

Battery recycling boxes were set up in the company to recover spent batteries, including dry-cell and other types of batteries. During Environment Month, the company collected 73 spent batteries. Employees who cooperated in this project were given a prize. The company plans to continue to carry out this project through December 2015.
Hefei Rijian Shearing Co., Ltd.
On June 10, Hefei Rijian Shearing implemented a No Car Commute Day. The goal was to raise environmental awareness among all employees. Employees were encouraged to commute by bicycle, bus, or carpool. Although this was a one-day initiative, it was effective in reducing resource use, CO2 emissions, exhaust gas emissions, and noise. The number of cars used for commuting was cut by around 50% on this day. This contributed to a reduction in CO2 emission of around 205kg, based on calculations used for new car emissions in China.
