Participating in the 2015 Koka City Eco Festa and Hands-on Learning Plaza (Hitachi Construction Machinery Tierra)
The Koka City Eco Festa and Hands-on Learning Plaza was held at Koka City, Shiga Prefecture, on October 10, 2015. This was the third straight year that Hitachi Construction Machinery Tierra participated.
This year Tierra showcased two compact excavators—the ZX17U-5A (decked out in special Hawaiian colors) and the ZX40U-5, with fork grapple specifications. Children that boarded the compact excavator were given a children’s license and stamp book. Elementary school students were given paper craft models of a hydraulic excavator. This year a corner was set up where children could assemble their paper craft models. The paper craft models had a difficulty level of 4 (fairly complex) but the children worked with enthusiasm taking more than 30 minutes to put their models together. This year the ZX17U-5A excavator is pictured on the children’s license, which is a popular event every year. The developers of the machine participated as volunteers with their children.
There was a diverse volunteer staff on hand at this year’s event. Employees from the Shiga Logistics Group of Hitachi Kenki Logistics Technology participated, as well as female trainees from the Philippines and a female Portuguese interpreter that works in the General Affairs department. This diversity reflects the many non-Japanese employees that work at Tierra.
More than 400 visitors attended the event. And thanks to the 24 volunteers, these families had the chance to experience the appeal of the HCM Group’s compact excavators.
