Melrose Children Home’s Visit to Science Centre Singapore (Hitachi Construction Machinery Asia and Pacific)
Melrose Children Home is an established philanthropic organisation that provides a supportive residential environment for children between the ages of 3 to 18 years old who need care and protection as their parents or family members are often unable to provide care or supervision for them.
On 18th Dec 2015, 6 Hitachi Construction Machinery Asia and Pacific (HMAP) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) committee members and 5 HMAP volunteers spent a meaningful afternoon with 14 children from Melrose Children Home at the Science Centre Singapore. 2 volunteers from the home were also on the trip to look after the needs of the children.
We began the activity with a lunch box with the children, a great way to break the ice with the children and getting them all warmed up for the trip to Science Centre, a leading regional Science Centre that has been promoting interest and creative learning in science and technology amongst the young for the past 37 years.
The children were enthralled by Monsters of the Sea exhibition that is currently hosted at the Science Centre. The exhibition spans over 2,000 sqm and holds the largest animatronics collection of life-sized marine reptiles, mammals and fishes. Using displays of technology, the children came face to face with legendary sea creatures that rule the marine world, learnt fascinating facts about how these prehistoric sea creatures existed alongside other sea animals, as well as amazing insights into some of the most well-known mythical creatures like the Kraken, Loch Ness Monster and Chinese Dragon!
The children thoroughly enjoyed the trip which is both educational and fun. We are glad to spread the Christmas cheer to the children and it is our hope for them to become more environmentally conscious, ever mindful of the vast marine life that is critical in sustaining our marine eco-system, and taking good care of the environment for the benefit of the future generations to come.
