Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Program (Wenco International Mining Systems)
Charity and social contributions are a core part of life at Wenco — especially during the holidays. Since 2012, Wenco has participated in a Christmas gift-giving program called Operation Christmas Child.
Operation Christmas Child was established by Samaritan’s Purse in 1993. Its purpose is to send shoeboxes full of goods to children who face war, hunger, and poverty in over 100 countries around the world. The project is the largest charitable Christmas gift program of its kind in the world.
Facilitated by Wenco’s social committee, the project asks employees to fill a shoebox with toys, stationery, and school supplies for children between two and 14 years old. On November 16, Wenco collected 26 such shoeboxes and delivered them to a collection centre in Richmond, BC. The shoeboxes were then delivered to needy children on Christmas Day. Wenco contributes a donation of $10 for each shoebox to cover the project cost and shipping.
The Operation Christmas Child program has been a success for us for many years and we will continue encouraging our employees to participate next year. We are also looking for more opportunities to take part in activities that enhance the social good of our community.
