Hitachi Construction Machinery Hosts the "Service Technician Competition 2023"
November 15, 2023
Hitachi Construction Machinery hosted the 19th Service Technician Competition 2023 at the Technical Training Center (Kasumigaura, Ibaraki Prefecture.) on October 18 and 19. This competition is hosted every year to increase service quality, ensure stable machinery operation, and improve customer satisfaction by training and motivating service personnel. After being canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the competition was held for the first time in four years.
This year, 10 contestants were selected to compete through qualifying tournaments from direct and independent dealers in ten regions around the world including Europe, Asia, and Africa. After testing their individual service skills in the knowledge test, practical test, measurement test, and reporting test, the winners of the MVS (Most Valuable Service) award were Jack Harrison from the UK sales and service subsidiary Hitachi Construction Machinery UK in the ZX200-5B category and Nikolay Rybalkin from Eurasian Machinery LLP, an affiliated sales and service company in Kazakhstan, in the ZX200-5G category.
This year also marked the first time that a contestant from Hitachi Construction Machinery Americas participated in the competition with a representative from Wajax Limited (Canada), Hitachi Construction Machinery dealer. With the start of Hitachi Construction Machinery's full-scale independent expansion in the Americas market in March 2023, the company is expanding initiatives deployed in other regions to North American dealers as well to deepen direct communication as a manufacturer with North American dealers and provide more customer-oriented services.
Going forward, Hitachi Construction Machinery will continue to increase service quality, ensure stable machinery operation, and improve customer satisfaction around the world through the strengths of the ConSite service solution and the know-how accumulated through the "direct sales and service" system in which employees directly provide sales and services to customers in major regions.
19th Service Technician Competition 2023
Because the models used in each region differ due to the exhaust gas standards for hydraulic excavators, both the ZX200-5B and ZX200-5G hydraulic excavators were prepared for use in the competitions.
1. Knowledge test
The test covered hydraulics, electricity, mechanics, and other areas of basic knowledge.
2. Practical test
In the practical test, contestants verified the defective areas of a hydraulic excavator based on information from a hypothetical customer inquiry stating that the "front operation is slow" and an alarm notification delivered by the ConSite remote monitoring solution for construction machinery and recorded the inspection results in the ConSite Shot inspection report creation app.
3. Measurement test
The measurement test was based on a hypothetical harness disconnection and required the use of a wheel loader harness to measure the electric resistance of the wiring. The contestants read the correct measurement locations from a circuit diagram to measure the electric resistance with a multimeter (measuring instrument).
4. Reporting test
The reporting test was based on a hypothetical scenario in which contestants reported customer service details to their superior. Contestants were required to create a ConSite report with ConSite Shot within the time limit, report to their superior based on the report, and participate in a question and answer session.
