Effective Use of Water
To contribute to the effective utilization of water resources, Hitachi Construction Machinery group is working to reduce and reuse/recycle the water usage (including fresh water) which accompanies business activity. Also, we continue appropriate maintenance and management of waste-water resulting from operations with the goal of preventing water contamination.
With respect to environmental management, our system is centered around Sustainability Promotion Division, which comprehensively manages and promotes environment, social and governance matters for the entire Group as well as discloses information as appropriate. The Sustainability Promotion Committee, which meets biannually, is comprised of members including the president and executive officers. It carries out deliberations and approvals on ESG matters related to management decisions, including our response to climate change and water use reduction.
The Hitachi Construction Machinery Group is working to make continuous improvements with targets such as rate of improvement in the basic unit of specific water usage volumes.
Major initiatives for effective water use and water reduction
- Installing water flow meters for each water supply route, planning and implementing measures to improve
- Stop using some faucets and installing water-saving devices
- Promotion of increasing the lifespan of the water used in painting facilities and expansion of the use of recycled water
- Use of rainwater by using water tanks
- Control and inspection of wastewater quality at the final treatment plant

The Hitachi Construction Machinery Group considers protecting the water bodies that receive the effluents from factories is an important issue.
In order to prevent water contamination, we have put in place independent standard values even more stringent than the pollution prevention agreement values set by national and local governments, and in addition to daily water quality inspections, we have installed automated measuring devices which can be regularly monitored, implemented a strict management structure, and maintain and manage the quality of waste water from operations.
We strictly control water discharged through wastewater treatment systems, and install biological treatment depending on wastewater quality.
We regularly monitor BOD and COD emissions complying with pollution prevention agreement values set by each national and local government.
FY2020 | FY2021 | FY2022 | FY2023 | |
BOD Emission | 4.7 t | 5.9 t | 5.0 t | 2.9 t |
COD Emission | 8.6 t | 17.6 t | 9.3 t | 3.7 t |
